I wrote this a few months ago, but forgot to post it. While it's no longer just becoming autumn, the rest of it still applies, so I'm posting it now.

Camping.

I really kinda' want to take a trip and go camping. And just bring either my pens and some paper, or this tablet and enough battery to keep it charged for the duration. I'd like to see what happens if I just go somewhere and live a simpler life. Somewhere in the wilderness where I can disconnect from the chronically online life and focus on just getting some of the ideas and stuff that are in my head out.

I'm reminded of Thoreau and his cabin in the woods where he went on retreat and wrote Walden. Something like that sounds really appealing to me. Just being able to concentrate on the simple things in life, and writing. As well, its been a really long time since I got out into nature, even a little. Over 20 years. I think the last time I went camping was in the early 2000's, and even that was only a few times. I'm not even sure where the good spots to camp down here are anymore. But as we head into the fall season and, (hopefully,) cooler temperatures it couldn't hurt to look.

I remember back near where I used to live in NY, there were places where I could rent a small, simple cabin for a short time. Something like that might be a good starting point. I could work out of a tent if I was just going for a weekend or something, but if I wanted to spend a little longer something a little more solid would be best. Something like that would probably also have at least a small desk or room for one inside. They have the same thing down here, some places even let you rent by the month. I'd love to do that if I could afford it. Just rent a cabin for a month and spend that time mostly writing.

I'm not sure if / when I'll get to actually do something like that, but it's a nice little dream, the biggest hurdle to jump over to make this happen is just finding the time to do it.

I have an idea based loosely on the Photo a day thing that I tried to do in 2023. I really liked the idea of that project, but I wasn't abel to keep up with the pace of shooting a photo every day and keeping it interesting. I also wanted to incorporate my writing a little bit with it and make it something a little more involved.
So I think for 2024 I'm going to do something a little bit different. Instead of just putting out a photo a day, I'm going to put one out somewhere between once a week, or once a month. I haven't quite decided on the frequency yet. I also intend to do some writing along with it. Either a short story, or a write up on the subject of the photos. How involved it gets will depend on how much I can keep up with it.
I want to go all in on this one, so I'll be putting a good bit of time and planning into it. Though this being something I haven't done before, at least not in a serial fashion there will probably be some adjustment period in the beginning as I find my footing and see what schedule works best. As well as just what I can handle. My main goals are to create something interesting, without the project becoming overwhelming or setting goals too high so that I can't achieve them. I also want to make sure that it stays interesting. While I do expect it to start off a little rough, I do eventually want this to be something that's fun not just for me, but for people that might want to read my stuff and see my photos.
I'll be the first to admit, I'm rusty as hell. I've tinkered a little here and there but I haven't put any serious work in this direction in a long time. So I'm excited, but also kind of nervous about this. I realize that I'm under no obligation to do anything outside those I impose on myself, but I also don't want to disappoint. Myself, or anyone that decides to take an interest in my little project.
So that's the plan. I'll probably tinker a bit when I have the free time in December, but the main start will be in January. i intend this to be a project that will go all year. And after doing a few I'll make a decision on a schedule, and barring major events that would stop me, try to stick to that schedule.
Should be fun, here we go! :)
